HobbyHash Coin FAQ

Frequently asked questions about HOBC Tri-PoW mining, SHA-256, KawPow GPU, and RandomX CPU pools, wallets, nodes, bridge, market, and support.

Basics

What is HobbyHash Coin?

HobbyHash Coin is a Tri-PoW coin (SHA-256 + KawPow GPU + RandomX CPU) focused on hobby miners, home miners, solo miners, and small mining setups.

What is HOBC?

HOBC is the ticker for HobbyHash Coin.

What algorithm does it use?

After height 16800, HOBC uses Tri-PoW: SHA-256d for ASICs, KawPow for GPUs, and RandomX for CPUs. All three race for every block — always on, with no height-based idle windows.

What is Tri-PoW?

After height 16800, three algorithms race for every block: SHA-256d on ports 5555–5557, KawPow GPU on 5558, and RandomX CPU on 5559. Flat 45 HOBC reward for all algos. Alternating-algo windows, idle SHA/GPU periods, and height-based window schedules are retired. Live race hashrate: /network/.

What is the block reward?

After height 16800, every mined block pays a flat 45 HOBC to the winning algo (SHA-256d, KawPow, or RandomX). There is no separate reward schedule per algorithm.

Who wins a Tri-PoW block?

After height 16800, SHA-256d, KawPow, and RandomX all race for every block. The first valid proof-of-work that meets the network target wins that block and receives the flat 45 HOBC reward. There is no alternating window that “turns off” an algo.

What is the max supply?

HOBC’s total target supply is 84,000,000 HOBC. A transparent launch reserve of 8,400,000 HOBC is assigned at block height 1. See the Exchange Listing Packet and Launch Reserve pages for official numbers and allocation notes.

What is the launch reserve?

Consensus assigns 8,400,000 HOBC at block height 1 as a startup / launch reserve for ecosystem operations. It is labeled in the explorer and tracked on the Launch Reserve page — the site does not invent reserve balances.

What does a HOBC address look like?

Mainnet HOBC addresses use Bech32 with HRP hobc, so they start with hobc1…. Do not use BTC, BCH, DGB, or other-chain addresses as your pool worker payout address.

How do I start mining?

Get a HOBC address from a wallet, pick the pool that matches your hardware (SHA / GPU / CPU), set worker YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.worker1, and point your miner at the matching stratum port. Step-by-step: Mining Guide and Mining Setup.

Where do I see live race hashrate?

Open the network page for the live Tri-PoW race feed — SHA-256d, KawPow, and RandomX competing for every block after height 16800.

Where is the block explorer?

Use the official HOBC explorer to look up heights, block hashes, txids, and addresses from the live node. If data is unavailable, the explorer says so instead of showing fake results.

Mining & pools

Which pool should I use?

SHA-256 ASICs: Main Pool (5555) for typical hashrate, Nano Pool (5556) for small hobby miners, or PPLNS (5557) if you want shared payouts instead of solo. GPUs: KawPow on 5558. CPUs: RandomX on 5559. Main, Nano, GPU, and CPU are solo — you earn when your worker finds the block.

What is the PPLNS pool?

PPLNS (port 5557) is the shared SHA-256 pool: when a block is found, rewards are split across recent share contributors in the PPLNS window (after the published pool fee). Main, Nano, GPU, and CPU pools are solo — only the worker that finds the block is paid.

Can I mine with a GPU?

Yes. Use a KawPow-capable miner (lolMiner, T-Rex, GMiner, etc.) on stratum+tcp://pool.hobbyhashcoin.com:5558 — always on in the Tri-PoW race after height 16800. Worker format matches SHA pools: YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.worker1.

Can I mine with a CPU?

Yes. Use a RandomX CPU miner (hobc-rxminer from Downloads) on stratum+tcp://pool.hobbyhashcoin.com:5559 — always on in the Tri-PoW race after height 16800. Worker format: YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.worker1.

Can I mine with a small miner?

Yes, small SHA-256 miners can try the Nano Pool. Nano miners, Bitaxe-style devices, NerdMiner-style hobby miners, and other low-hashrate setups may submit fewer shares and show jumpy hashrate.

Can I solo mine?

Yes. HOBC Main, Nano, GPU, and CPU pools are solo only. Accepted shares show work, but payout happens only when your worker finds a real block. The reward pays to the HOBC address before the dot in your worker name. After height 16800 the block reward is a flat 45 HOBC.

What worker name should I use?

Use YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.worker1 on Main, PPLNS, GPU, or CPU pools, or YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.nano1 on Nano Pool. Always include your HOBC address, a dot, and a worker suffix. The HOBC address before the dot is your payout address.

What password do I use for mining?

Use password x (or any short placeholder your miner requires). The important field is the worker name: YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.worker1 on the matching stratum port.

What port do I use?

Mainnet node P2P uses 18761. Main Pool stratum uses 5555. Nano Pool stratum uses 5556. PPLNS Pool stratum uses 5557. GPU KawPow pool stratum uses 5558. CPU RandomX pool stratum uses 5559. All mining ports stay on continuously after height 16800.

Are there pool fees?

Official solo Main Pool fee is currently 1% of the block reward before payout. Nano Pool has no pool fee. GPU and CPU solo pools follow their pool page rules. PPLNS uses a published shared-pool fee on that pool page. Always check the live pool page for the fee shown there.

Do SHA pools still go idle sometimes?

No. After height 16800 the alternating-algo window schedule is retired. SHA, KawPow, and RandomX pools stay on continuously and race for every block. If a pool looks offline, check miner settings or pool status — it is not an expected idle window.

Why does the pool ban high hashrate?

If your total hashrate is above 99989 / 0 TH/s on the Main or Nano pool it will be disconnected or banned so smaller setups get a fair shot at solo blocks.

My miner will not connect — what should I check?

Confirm pool host pool.hobbyhashcoin.com, the correct port for your algo (5555–5559), worker YOUR_HOBC_ADDRESS.suffix, password x, and the right algorithm (SHA-256, KawPow, or RandomX). Use a real hobc1… address. See Mining Guide and Mining Setup.

What are coinbase markers?

Compliant pools embed a short identity marker in the coinbase so the network can attribute hashrate and pool participation in the Tri-PoW race census on /network/. Use the Pool Config Validator to build a valid marker (site, pool_id, algo). Do not spoof another pool's identity.

Can I run my own pool?

Yes, if you run a compliant HobbyHash Core build and stamp a valid HOBC coinbase marker. Use the Pool Config Validator first (site ≤ 24 chars, worker ≤ 16, real pool_id/algo), then follow the GitHub pool READMEs and POOL_COMPLIANCE.md. Markers must identify your pool honestly — spoofed identity can get your pool blocked.

What port do I forward on my router?

Forward mainnet P2P port 18761 only if you want inbound node peers. Do not forward RPC.

Should I open RPC?

No. Keep RPC private/local only. Mainnet RPC is 18762 and should not be exposed to the internet.

Rewards & shares

How does the pool pay block rewards?

When your worker finds a solo block, the HOBC reward pays automatically to the address before the dot in your worker name after the coinbase reaches 100 on-chain confirmations. The pool does not split block rewards across all miners.

Why do block payouts take time?

After a solo block is found, the coinbase must reach 100 on-chain confirmations before the automatic payout can send. Until then the block may show as waiting for maturity. That wait is normal coinbase maturity, not a manual pool hold.

How is the Workers count calculated?

The Workers number on pool status counts every miner with recent accepted shares in the active session window, not only live stratum socket connections. That is why it can be higher than a raw connection count.

What are accepted shares?

Accepted shares are valid units of mining work accepted by the pool.

What are rejected shares?

Rejected shares were not accepted by the pool. Common causes include stale work, wrong URL, wrong port, bad worker format, latency, or firmware issues.

What is best difficulty?

Best difficulty is the highest-difficulty share seen for a miner or pool over a period.

Does a high share mean I found a block?

Not always. A share only finds a block if it meets or beats the current network difficulty target.

Is mining profitable?

Profit depends on hardware, power cost, uptime, difficulty, luck, and market conditions. HOBC docs do not promise profit.

Wallets & nodes

Which wallet should I use?

For full-node custody on your machine, use the official desktop wallets from Downloads (Windows and Linux). For a browser account wallet on hobbyhashcoin.com, use the web wallet. Always keep backups of keys or seed material you control.

What is the difference between the web wallet and desktop wallet?

The web wallet is a custodial account wallet on hobbyhashcoin.com (you log in; HOBC holds keys under its custody model). Desktop wallets from Downloads run a local full node and keep keys on your machine. Choose based on whether you want self-custody or convenience — and always keep backups for any keys you control.

What is the difference between Linux AppImage and .deb wallets?

They are separate Linux wallet channels with independent versions and update manifests. AppImage is the portable build for AlmaLinux/RHEL/Fedora-style desktops; .deb is for Debian/Ubuntu package installs. Download the channel that matches your OS from Downloads — do not mix update channels.

Why does Windows warn about the wallet?

New or unsigned wallet apps can trigger SmartScreen or reputation warnings. Only download from hobbyhashcoin.com and verify checksums when available.

What is cold storage?

Cold storage means keeping wallet keys offline so they are not exposed to an internet-connected machine during normal use.

What is a full node?

A full node verifies blocks and transactions independently and helps relay chain data to peers.

What is a bootstrap snapshot?

A bootstrap snapshot is a packaged copy of chain data used to speed initial sync. Official HOBC bootstrap snapshot status is Coming soon.

What are checksums?

Checksums are hashes published for download files so users can verify that a file matches the official release.

What happens if I lose my wallet backup?

If you lose the wallet backup or password needed to spend funds, coins can become permanently inaccessible.

Bridge, market & listing

What is wHOBC?

wHOBC is wrapped HOBC issued as a BEP-20 token on BNB Smart Chain. Each wHOBC is backed 1:1 by HOBC held in bridge custody, so you can hold and trade it from your own wallet (MetaMask, Trust, and more).

What is the bridge?

The official HOBC bridge wraps HOBC into wHOBC on BNB Smart Chain and unwraps wHOBC back to native HOBC 1:1. Wrap may have hourly limits and network rules; unwrap returns HOBC to a HOBC address you provide.

Is wHOBC really backed 1:1?

Yes. Circulating wHOBC matches HOBC locked in bridge custody. You can verify peg health and reserves on the bridge page and the linked proof-of-reserves view.

How do I trade wHOBC?

Wrap native HOBC to wHOBC on the bridge, then buy or sell on a live market from your own wallet. Live price and chart are on the market page. No HOBC site account is required to trade on the DEX.

Why does my wallet show $0 for wHOBC?

During early launch, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and BscScan often show $0 USD until a price feed lists wHOBC — that does not mean your balance is zero. wHOBC uses 8 decimals (not 18), so a wrong token import can hide coins. Add the official contract from the bridge page.

What is the hourly wrap limit?

When wrap limits are enabled, only a set amount of HOBC can be wrapped to wHOBC each hour (Pacific clock). Remaining allowance is shown live on the bridge. Unwrapping is not capped and can add bonus wrap headroom. Excess deposits are refunded automatically.

Can exchanges integrate HOBC?

See the official Exchange Listing Packet for network parameters, supply, checksums, and listing contact details. No listing is guaranteed.

How do referrals work?

Every web wallet gets a free referral code. When people you invite buy wHOBC and unwrap into the HOBC web wallet (meeting published minimums), you can earn multi-level rewards into your web wallet balance. Details: Referrals.

Where are coin burns tracked?

Verified burns are shown on the official burn tracker when available. The explorer also labels the documented burn address when it appears in results. See the explorer for address and transaction lookups.
