Security Guide

Safe download, wallet, node, RPC, and support practices for HOBC users.

Download safety

  • Only download HobbyHash Coin software from hobbyhashcoin.com.
  • Verify checksums when they are available.
  • Do not trust random mirrors, social media attachments, or private messages with wallet links.
  • Do not install software claiming to be an exchange, a miner bonus, or a wallet update unless it is linked from the official site.

Wallet safety

  • Encrypt wallets when the wallet supports encryption.
  • Keep wallet backups offline.
  • Never share private keys or recovery phrases.
  • Never paste private keys into websites.
  • Understand your backup and recovery method before holding larger balances.

Node and RPC safety

  • Use a strong RPC username and long random RPC password.
  • Bind RPC to localhost with rpcbind=127.0.0.1.
  • Restrict RPC with rpcallowip=127.0.0.1.
  • Never forward RPC port 18762 to the public internet.
  • Use a firewall and only allow inbound P2P 18761/tcp if you want inbound mainnet peers.

Server and SSH safety

  • Use SSH keys instead of weak passwords when possible.
  • Keep the operating system updated.
  • Limit admin access to trusted users.
  • Do not run wallet daemons as root unless you understand the risk.
  • Back up config and wallet files before upgrades.

Fake support warning

  • Support will not need your private key.
  • Support will not need your wallet password.
  • Support will not ask you to install remote-control software to receive coins.
  • Use the official contact form when you need help.
If a download, wallet, or support message feels urgent or secretive, stop and verify it on the official site before acting.
